Pi4 ReSpeaker 2-Mic HAT + Fan Shim

Pi4 ReSpeaker 2-Mic HAT + Fan Shim

The Fan on the Fan Shim will run continuously with no software installed, and will thus cool your Pi 4B. I think your still going to have issues even if you go that route though. The Fan shim fan control pin is GPIO 18 and that is used by the 2-Mic hat. Signals from or too the 2-Mic Hat on that pin will likely have the fan turn on off on off. Maybe even buzz etc.

Thanks - will these work with the 26pin header?

One will line up for sure, not sure about the others though. I’m so used to all the 40 pin Pi’s having the mounting holes in the same place I forgot that the older ones have things shifted around a bit. Sorry about that.

Just bought my first rasp. Pi 4b

LTR559 maximum level hit

The recent very clear and sunny weather has really tested a couple of my sensors.
The LTR559 light level measurement seems to have topped out at 38k lux, which is well below the datasheet max of 64k+, and this was on a sunny window sill indoors.
In addition, my UV sensor output of UV Index, a mean of uvA and uvB, shot up to over 12 when I put it on the sill outside. That is well above the ‘dangerous’ level and not believable.
Has anyone else had these kind of values and corrected them?

I can’t help you with your main question, but want to point out something not every one is aware of.
Be aware that today’s plastics and most glass windows will block UV light, and mess with your sensor readings.

Hi, does anyone know how to uninstall the pirate audio software without having to go back to a fresh raspbian download.
Other Pimoroni library software usually has an uninstall.sh option.

USB adaptor for Pi Zero

Is the larger USB connector on the adaptor CAB0225 or CAB0234 a plug or a socket? It doesn’t say in the description but it looks like a plug.

I’m trying to work out how to connect a mouse and keyboard to a Pi Zero and since it only has one USB port I’ll have to use a hub. I’ve got a Raspberry shaped hub for the Pi but this uses one of those square sockets like you see on printers to connect to the computer. I’ve only got cables from this type of socket to ordinary large USB plugs. I will need a small plug to large socket adaptor or a small plug to square plug cable to connect it.

All these different types of USB connectors are a nightmare on what is supposed to be an easy to use “standard” interface.

The Pi Zero uses a Micro USB jack for power and Data. This is what i use with my Pi Zero’s, no adapter needed.

The adapter in this kit will also work.

I don’t see that adapter listed separately though.

I’ve got a Raspberry shaped hub for the Pi but this uses one of those square sockets like you see on printers

The technical term for that is a Type B. Type B is basically a dead standard now, and I don’t think those Pi-shaped USB hubs have been made for a while.

I’ve only got cables from this type of socket to ordinary large USB plugs

Those are Type A.

Both the CAB0225 and CAB0234 are Type A male, so not what you’re looking for. As Alphanumeric said, your best bet is the adaptor in the Pi Zero Adaptor Kit. I use one of those for a USB ethernet connector, they’re not too long and work fine.

The LTR559 light level measurement seems to have topped out at 38k lux, which is well below the datasheet max of 64k+

So at a glance 38K is low but still within the range of outdoor light levels. Is there a particular reason you think it should be higher? From reading the datasheet if you’re getting readings of 38K then the sensor is set up to take readings right up to 64K, so it seems to be working fine.

In addition, my UV sensor output of UV Index, a mean of uvA and uvB, shot up to over 12 when I put it on the sill outside

Which UV sensor, and which library are you running it with?

EDIT:

This PDF on lights interfering with bats says that British summer sunshine is about 50K lux (page 6), so 38K doesn’t sound bad.

Thanks for the replies.
I understand UV is reduce by normal glass and some plastics, however my sensors are currently ‘naked’, although I am considering putting some PTFE tape over the UV sensor to widen its reception angle. Perhaps it is the continuous cloudless sky, I was just suspicious that the level flattened off at 38k. Maybe 38k lux looks about right as it has hit that for a couple of days now.
Sorry, yes, the UV sensor is a VEML6075 using the Pimoroni standard library.

Thank you both for the information. For now I’ll go with plan B (which I just thought up). When the stuff arrives I’ll put the noobs micro-SD in a Pi 3, start it up and enable the VNC service. Then I’ll move the micro-SD to the Pi Zero and see if it starts with VNC enabled. I don’;t know if this will work, maybe initializing Raspbian on a Pi 3 will configure it so it doesn’t work on a Pi Zero. Just in case I’ll wishlist those things you mentioned and order one if I need it.

As well as the hub I’ve got a printer/scanner and a couple of music keyboards that use the type B connector. If that is now dead I’d better take care of the cables I’ve got for them, I’ve got a couple of old devices that use yet another type of USB plug, the one that is smaller than type A but not as small as the one on the Pi Zero. I haven’t seen any of those for a long time and I’ve only got one working cable.

Garden Breakout with SPI + I2C for NeoTrellis

I had posted on Discord and seems lack of communication. This Pimoroi forum seems much better for a faster respond. Here what I have written on Discord.

Few days ago, I entered Adafruit on Discord to ask some questions about Adafruit VS1053B board that might be a solution for my Neotrellis M4 as stand-alone synthesizer or so. It turned out that Adafruit VS1053 is SPI not i2C. Because of neotrellis M4 has a STEMMA port which is SDA, SCL, GND, and VCC. Then, my mind popped up… wait a minute Pimoroni Garden Breakout might be solution to use SD card breakout since it has both SPI and I2C… However, it focuses on Python language which I am more into C /C++ language using Arduino IDE ( well, more likely plug and play person). Anyway, is it possible to use Garden Breakout? Let me know. Do not worry if the answer is not possible won’t discourage me. Just do not want to have a false hope.

I drool on Synthstrom Deluge but the price is spiky. No velocity sensor. Neotrellis M4 is nice size, 32 buttons, accelerometer, and neopixel colorful are sufficient. What the most cool is about this- open source.

If Garden breakout with SPI and i2c is not possible, I have a 3.7 Class D amplifier module by Adafruit that has been left dust for long time- I am going to try hook up and use DIY lipo battery. Shall see what happen. The reason I really like sd card is more storage than rely on internal RAM.

Well, happy Friday and happy hackings

I am sorry, I thought I have replied to yours. Thank you so much. I am thinking to get one for Itsy Bitty Box project as visual musical notes or something like that.

I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re trying to do here. You’ve a Neotrellis M4 and wanted to connect it to the VS1053B so that the VS can be the sound output of the Neotrellis, is that right? But the VS needs a SPI connection, whereas the Neotrellis only has i2c. I’m not sure what you’re asking about the Breakout Garden.

The Garden boards just break out the SPI and i2c ports on the Raspberry Pi into physical connectors, they don’d add SPI or i2c ports and the SPI and i2c ports don’t communicate with each other in any way.
